MICHAEL SMITH

Dr Robert L. Hirsch, Senior Energy Program Advisor at SAIC in the USA described Dr Michael Smith as....

"one of the few who have a real grasp of the issues involved in world oil production."

Chris Skrebowski, Editor Petroleum Review, Board Member of ODAC & founder member of ASPO says that….

“....he has, in my opinion, developed one of the clearest and most insightful of analyses about future oil production flows. His presentational skills are superb and his recent presentation is the best and clearest insight into the challenge of oil supply peaking and the possible mitigation options that I have seen.”

At a conference at the University of Petroleum in Beijing, Associate Professor Dr Guoping Bai said....

"His presentation is warmly received by the participants and it is regarded as one of the best presentations in the conference."

Dr Roger Bentley, Research Fellow at the University of Reading, UK has collaborated with Dr. Smith over a number of years in hydrocarbon resource modelling....

"In my opinion he is one of the few international experts who understands the current energy risks faced by mankind and who has key insights into their solution.”

Dr David L. Greene, Corporate Fellow of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee claims that....

"Dr Smith's analysis of oil resources has produced important insights about the future of global petroleum supplies with respect to both extent and rate of production. Energy analysts in government and industry should be aware of his work and its implications.”

DR MICHAEL R. SMITH

Michael has spent nearly 25 years working in the oil and gas industry.

After receiving his doctorate in geology from Oxford University in the UK in 1981 he worked for 7 years as a consultant in the Asia-Pacific region and for the next 10 years was employed in both managerial and technical capacities with oil companies in many parts of the world, mostly in exploration-related activities.

His interest in energy supply forecasting, activity and expenditure - subjects on which he has written and presented extensively - was stimulated whilst acting as Exploration Manager for Sun Oil in Yemen in 1991. Here he witnessed the rapid rise and fall of Sun’s exploration business and was shocked to observe the scarcity of global opportunities to find new oil and gas resources even then.

He is now Chief Executive of Energyfiles.
