NORTH
& NORTH WEST AFRICA
Oil production was flat from North and Northwest Africa
prior to 2003.
Although
offshore production will remain flat for the region to 2015, onshore
production is expected to increase as new drilling proceeds in the OPEC
countries of Algeria and Libya in particular. However growth will be
short-lived with a peak forecast in 2010/11.
Gas production will increase primarily from offshore
Egypt and Libya and from onshore Algeria and Libya, continuing to the
end of the period.
Growing gas production is leading to mounting consumption
in countries across North Africa whilst growth in oil consumption is
modest. Exports of gas, largely to Europe, are rising. Oil exports,
although substantial, will peak in 2010 before falling due to supply
constraints.
