SUPPLY
Minor amounts of oil have been produced onshore from the
Essaouira and Rharb basins, however significant discoveries have never
been made despite a series of exploration campaigns, both onshore and
offshore.
Exploration continues offshore and there are recent efforts in deep
waters but only small amounts of new onshore oil production is forecast.
Limited gas production has also been achieved onshore. There are few
prospects for significant growth but output may increase slightly over
the next decade.
DEMAND
Morocco imports nearly all of its oil. However
consumption has increased due to above average economic growth in this
part of North Africa. Nevertheless higher prices will eventually quell
demand growth.
Morocco consumes very little gas and imports none at present.
