Chad began producing oil in 2003 from 3 new fields
through a pipeline to an offshore terminal in Cameroon. Exploration
along the path of the pipeline could yield more oil in the Doba and
Bongor basins so that output will remain at a bumpy plateau before
beginning to fall consistently after 2014/15.
Chad has no gas production and none is forecast before 2020 although the
country may have gas prospects. Chad has no offshore waters.
Oil consumption in Chad was negligible until indigenous
production began and it is still modest. Some growth is expected in line
with growing exports and increasing signs of affluence amongst its small
