SUPPLY
Benin, along with Togo, has an offshore area underlain by
the Benin basin. Two shallow water fields have been developed, one of
which (Seme) is still producing. Output peaked back in 1985 although
some modest new production may be realised from 2010.
Deepwaters are being explored but no new production is forecast.
There is no gas or onshore production in the country and no new output
is forecast.
DEMAND
Benin uses modest amounts of oil, most of which is
imported.
Oil consumption will remain flat although gas use is likely to begin,
substituting for oil where possible, imported from largely Nigeria along
the West African pipeline.
