AFRICA & MIDDLE EAST
There are 36 countries/locations in the two sub-regions that produce or have
produced oil, condensate, natural gas liquids and/or natural gas at
recorded and measurable levels. Of these 23 are in Africa and 12 are in
the Middle East, including Turkey.
One further country in Africa (São Tomé & Príncipe) has
the potential to produce oil in the short term and gas in the longer term.
The region has 9 OPEC members, 6 in the Middle East and 3 in Africa. These
countries, combined with new oil output that is being progressively
realised from deep waters off West Africa, are hugely important for meeting
global oil and gas demand.
